“Scope Your Scope: An inside look at Site and List level Search”
Search scopes in SharePoint Server 2007 are used to narrow the search results returned to users executing a search query. Search scopes can be shared or locally defined. You can use different rules in the definition of a search scope, from simply scoping based on a content source to more complex scoping with conditions using custom metadata.
Ron Rohlfs, Neudesic

“Extending the Search Capabilities of MOSS with FAST ESP”
FAST can be used to perform the usual full-text enterprise search across multiple data sources, and FAST brings several additional capabilities to the SharePoint world, including content spotlighting, multimedia search, and taxonomy management. Besides the powerful FAST Query Language, SharePoint developers can use the .NET API interface to create web parts for integrating with FAST. Technologies like Silverlight and AJAX can be leveraged to create an engaging search experience for users in SharePoint portals. We will review some of the differences between Microsoft Search Server / MOSS 2007 and Microsoft FAST ESP.
The Southern California SharePoint User Group is created as a free resource for the purpose of exchanging ideas and information related to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, and related technologies. Our meetings cover topics on Microsoft Office in general, and SharePoint in particular, that are of interest to Application Developers, Business Information Workers and System Engineers.
In short, we encompass all aspects of Microsoft Office Server 2007. The group is run exclusively by volunteers. Our meetings are designed specifically to provide information that is of practical benefit to developers of any level of knowledge, from novice to expert. Each meeting is normally structured with two presentations for a greater variety of information. We also attempt to help with specific problems and questions outside of the main presentations in a one-on-one meeting with a knowledgeable volunteer.
Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of every month starting at 6:30 pm, and ending at 9:00 pm.
PLEASE PLAN TO ARRIVE BEFORE 7:00 PM!!! NO ONE will be allowed in after 7:00 PM!!!
